Net Metering in Seychelles
The benefits of using solar (PV) in the Seychelles and worldwide.
- Reduce your electricity bill with the (PUC) Net Metering System
- Protect yourself from future rising energy cost
- Send clean energy back into the local (PUC) electrical grid
- Help the environment by reducing Co2 emissions
- Take advantage of PV Grants available through government incentives
- Pay less for PV in the Seychelles through tax free imports
- Reduce your carbon footprint by producing your own electricity
- Guaranteed Payback Periods for your PV investments
- Use your roof as a solar platform to save space
- International 25 year service warranty available through your local PV installer
- Minimal maintenance through PV system lifespan
- Turn your property into an eco-friendly environment
UNDP rebate scheme
- The financial rebate scheme launched in May 2014 has been put in place as an incentive to encourage residential or commercial premises to install grid tied PV systems on their roof top. The rebate scheme has been organized by the Seychelles government in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) along with other local stakeholders. The overall aim of the scheme was to kick start the use of solar PV power production in order to reduce the dependence which the Seychelles currently has towards the importation and burning of fossil fuels. Overall the schemes target is to reduce diesel oil consumption by approximately 390 metric tons every year.
"The GOS-UMDP-GEF funded Grid-Connected Rooftop PV Systems Project (PV Project) aims to kick-start a market by setting up an enabling environment in which Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs), can be more readily adopted in Seychelles. The focus is primarily on residential buildings and Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and a key component of the PV project is the development of the PV rebate scheme which has mobilised over scr14.5million.

Residential Rebate Scheme
The residential rebate scheme offers a rebate of 25% of the first 3kW according to the current SCR 38.88/Wp decided by the UNDP and SEC in the Seychelles. Currently between 25,000 SCR - 29,000 SCR. In order to qualify for the rebate certain criteria must be followed by a PV installer.
Commercial Rebate Scheme
The commercial rebate scheme offers a rebate of 15% of the first 15kW according to the current SCR 38.88/Wp decided by the UNDP and SEC in the Seychelles. Currently between 80,000 SCR - 87,000 SCR. In order to qualify for the rebate certain criteria must be followed by a PV installer.
For both the Residential and Commercial rebate scheme certain criteria must be followed by your PV installer. The most important factors which the UNDP are concerned about is the yield of the system in terms of it being affected by shading and by the tilt of a roof. The more shading a PV system is exposed to the more its daily yield of power production would decrease.
A PV system installed on a roof with a high pitch can dramatically decrease the yield which a system produces. The optimum angle and orientation for a PV system installation in the Seychelles would be on a roof top approximately 10-15 degrease and facing either north or south. This is because of the geographical location of the Seychelles being near the equator.

PV rebate procedure
- A PV rebate form is submitted to PUC on behalf of the client.
- Form is approved by PUC and sent to the the UNDP office for further processing.
- Form is approved by the UNDP and sent to the DBS bank in Victoria.
- Client is contacted to pick up a cheque issued to their name.
Please be advised that rebate payments will only be issued to the name under which the PUC electricity meter is registered under.
